Dang that sucks!!! From what I’ve heard, there’s a few android phones that are having problems with the fly app now but I think it’s a phone glitch. I’m not 100% sure which phones but I do know they’re androids. Hopefully it gets sorted out soon because the mini 2 se drone is awesome!

I have used an iPad Mini with my Mini 2, but I noticed the lack of a wide screen distorts the picture a little. Distorted pictures really bug me, like watching a 4:3 movie that has been stretched to a 16:9 screen. Yes, that view was awesome when Rose did the boomerang too. I need to fly Faith (Mini 2) again. She's probably feeling pretty abandoned lately. I'm just having too much fun with Hope. 😊

Watching a one movie on a wide screen tv is really annoying. Everyone looks short and fat! lol. Anyway, the iPad Air 2 doesn’t do that. It’s a true 16:9 screen so it comes out pretty nice. The only problem I had was in editing. The iPad moves all the telemetry to banners above and below the flight recording so it distorts it to the 4:3 view. I had to cut the banners off and relocate them over the video feed to get it all in the picture for the video. It was all synced up so it worked out but we lost some of the video at the top and bottom. Plus I had to add 2 extra lines in the editing room. That was a pain in the butt!!! lol. Anyway, get Faith outta the box. I wonder if she could return home from the woods like Hope. Hahaha
@@WeretheRoberts Hahaha, she'd shoot straight up into the trees if it wasn't a clear shot! lol I have the RTH altitude set at about 183 feet to get over the tall trees. No weaving through the trees like the Mini 4. I love watching Hope trying to follow that green zigzag path through the trees, and getting confused, Hahaha I noticed that the green path is actually the breadcrumb trail she leaves, so she tries to get back the way she came. So I try zigzagging through the trees instead of a straight path to make it interesting, as long as she can't find an opening to the sky. lol

lol you’re probably right. I was talking about the grid line cross hair option in the middle of the screen. It was the same color as the road I guess so it blended in. I wish the Mini 2 had the augmented reality like the 4 pro. That green line is awesome!

I’m probably then loopiest person in our family. lol I know the iPad worked really well and was amazing inside the truck but as soon as I stepped into the sun, I couldn’t see anything. Worst part is it’s mainly for the phantom and I figured out I can’t fly the phantom while sitting in the truck so I may have to come up with a different option. That sun is brutal! The opening of your video had me gripping the table. It was a close call! But the update helped you a lot with the landing, or everything else you did off camera lol. Also I like your homemade fix for the iPad, but I stopped using the iPad long ago because of the sun issue, so hopefully the shade works for you. lol I didn’t even realize what happened until I saw the truck veering to the right. He blew his horn but it wasn’t very loud. I wonder if it was loud to the guy he almost plowed into. Worst part is the truck turning left didn’t do anything wrong. lol. I bet it scared the bejesus out of him however that’s spelled. Regarding the iPad sun issue, I can totally relate. The iPhones are just as bad but that big crack doesn’t help much. Hahaha. If I can use it and stay in the truck it should work out pretty good though. lol oh yea that screen was humongous and it worked out really good (inside the truck). The only problem was getting out of the truck the screen disappeared with the glare. That's a great spot to fly. Maybe the calibration is what needed to be done. I try and do it every time I fly even when it's not asking for it. That boomerang looks amazing. Thanks for sharing my friend. 👍👍👍
Man, I agree with you. Calibrations are more important than we realize I guess. I used to never do them unless they ask for them but for the past 6 months or so it seems like I have to do imu calibrations on the mini 2 every other flight. The 4 pro issue is new to me. lol. Oh, and the boomerang has now become my favorite quick shot. Lol

Good to see the update works. I mount my tablet to the controller with an extension made from 12 gauge insulated wire. Two hooks on the bottom to hook to the antenna posts, and one hook at the top to go over the top of the tablet. Just takes a minute to make one. And I've had to make a few, since i keep leaving them behind and losing them. Haha. Favorite quote: "Yeah, there is a crack, but we've all got one."😂
lol maybe I should’ve enlisted some advice on the design. I really think I must’ve seen someone else do something similar because there’s no way I came up with this on my own. I’m not that creative. However, it did come to me one evening sitting on the couch watching Seinfeld. Hmmmm When I said we’ve all gone one, it cracked me up. Kristi says I make myself laugh more than anyone else. Hahahaha
lol great question. I fly these mini drones commercially (for RUclips videos) and any drone that’s used for commercial purposes has to be registered with the FAA here in the US. In turn, any drone that’s registered had to have its own RID module (internally or externally) so unfortunately since the Mini 2 doesn’t have the internal RID, they have to wear these huge backpacks. lol.
Awesome question, buddy. I bought a few Holy Stone modules when they were almost $100 but they’ve come down to $65 or so on Amazon now so that cool. Also, Ruko sent me one of theirs to test out the other day and so far it seems to work like it should. That one is listed for $36!!! I’ll include links to both. @@WeretheRoberts Right after I wrote the question above, found the Ruko and ordered that. Haven't flown the Mini 2 with it yet, but the RID of the unit is visible on the Ruko app. I also updated the FAA registration for the module, marrying it to the Mini 2. Given when I checked RID modules 6 months ago, they've decreased substantially in price, with the Ruko being the lowest cost. Hopefully Congress in its infinite wisdom will not brick the drone with their upcoming legislation on DJI, or my DJI mics and Action 2 camera, given the way the language reads right now.
Very cool man. I hope it works out for your Mini 2. I’ve not had any interference issues with the Rid modules that I’m aware of. I’ve been told I mounted them too far forward though because I guess the gps receiver is in that area of the nose. I don’t know that for sure but most people who comment on our videos know a lot more about this stuff than I do. It’s cool to have all this info come across the channel.
@@WeretheRoberts Take that "advice" with a grain of salt. The Mini 2 aerodynamics weren't designed to slap on a RID module at the time it was released. We can do zero about changing the plastic form factor. All of us who want to legally fly this particular drone are having to apply a sloppy workaround at best in the US. It's close to seeing its day (roughly 26 months or a little longer). It's a cheap drone that maybe we can get a little more life out of with a lot of photographic capability. Hat's off to DJI on that one. If I can fly it and take more photogenic shots and video for another 12-24 months, I'm happy.

The max distance and altitude settings, RTH height etc are stored in the drone, which is why they were there from the get go 🌷

Hahaha. Can’t get anything by you! I’m probably then loopiest person in our family. lol I know the iPad worked really well and was amazing inside the truck but as soon as I stepped into the sun, I couldn’t see anything. Worst part is it’s mainly for the phantom and I figured out I can’t fly the phantom while sitting in the truck so I may have to come up with a different option. That sun is brutal! Thanks for the prayers for Dave. I know he really appreciates them. He’s gonna beat this I can feel it!

The opening of your video had me gripping the table. It was a close call! But the update helped you a lot with the landing, or everything else you did off camera lol. Also I like your homemade fix for the iPad, but I stopped using the iPad long ago because of the sun issue, so hopefully the shade works for you. My iPad was not only hard to see in the sun but it overheated easily so I wish you luck lol! Great video as always brother and thanks for the shout-out!
lol I didn’t even realize what happened until I saw the truck veering to the right. He blew his horn but it wasn’t very loud. I wonder if it was loud to the guy he almost plowed into. Worst part is the truck turning left didn’t do anything wrong. lol. I bet it scared the bejesus out of him however that’s spelled. Regarding the iPad sun issue, I can totally relate. The iPhones are just as bad but that big crack doesn’t help much. Hahaha. If I can use it and stay in the truck it should work out pretty good though. It’s those times I have to get outside that’s gonna be rough. Thanks as always for watching, man.

lol oh yea that screen was humongous and it worked out really good (inside the truck). The only problem was getting out of the truck the screen disappeared with the glare. That's a great spot to fly. Maybe the calibration is what needed to be done. I try and do it every time I fly even when it's not asking for it.

Man, I agree with you. Calibrations are more important than we realize I guess. I used to never do them unless they ask for them but for the past 6 months or so it seems like I have to do imu calibrations on the mini 2 every other flight. The 4 pro issue is new to me. lol. Oh, and the boomerang has now become my favorite quick shot. Lol

Good to see the update works. I mount my tablet to the controller with an extension made from 12 gauge insulated wire. Two hooks on the bottom to hook to the antenna posts, and one hook at the top to go over the top of the tablet. Just takes a minute to make one. And I've had to make a few, since i keep leaving them behind and losing them. Haha. Favorite quote: "Yeah, there is a crack, but we've all got one."😂
lol maybe I should’ve enlisted some advice on the design. I really think I must’ve seen someone else do something similar because there’s no way I came up with this on my own. I’m not that creative. However, it did come to me one evening sitting on the couch watching Seinfeld. Hmmmm When I said we’ve all gone one, it cracked me up. Kristi says I make myself laugh more than anyone else. Hahahaha

Why do you use a RID Mod. on a sub 250 g drone ?
lol great question. I fly these mini drones commercially (for RUclips videos) and any drone that’s used for commercial purposes has to be registered with the FAA here in the US. In turn, any drone that’s registered had to have its own RID module (internally or externally) so unfortunately since the Mini 2 doesn’t have the internal RID, they have to wear these huge backpacks. lol.

What RID module are you using for Rose and can you provide a link to the manufacturer?
Awesome question, buddy. I bought a few Holy Stone modules when they were almost $100 but they’ve come down to $65 or so on Amazon now so that cool. Also, Ruko sent me one of theirs to test out the other day and so far it seems to work like it should. That one is listed for $36!!! I’ll include links to both. @@WeretheRoberts Right after I wrote the question above, found the Ruko and ordered that. Haven't flown the Mini 2 with it yet, but the RID of the unit is visible on the Ruko app. I also updated the FAA registration for the module, marrying it to the Mini 2. Given when I checked RID modules 6 months ago, they've decreased substantially in price, with the Ruko being the lowest cost. Hopefully Congress in its infinite wisdom will not brick the drone with their upcoming legislation on DJI, or my DJI mics and Action 2 camera, given the way the language reads right now.
Very cool man. I hope it works out for your Mini 2. I’ve not had any interference issues with the Rid modules that I’m aware of. I’ve been told I mounted them too far forward though because I guess the gps receiver is in that area of the nose. I don’t know that for sure but most people who comment on our videos know a lot more about this stuff than I do. It’s cool to have all this info come across the channel.
@@WeretheRoberts Take that "advice" with a grain of salt. The Mini 2 aerodynamics weren't designed to slap on a RID module at the time it was released. We can do zero about changing the plastic form factor. All of us who want to legally fly this particular drone are having to apply a sloppy workaround at best in the US. It's close to seeing its day (roughly 26 months or a little longer). It's a cheap drone that maybe we can get a little more life out of with a lot of photographic capability. Hat's off to DJI on that one. If I can fly it and take more photogenic shots and video for another 12-24 months, I'm happy.
